And why I should be aware of it?

The word Pseudo is defined as “fake.” Although when you have symptoms like heightened discomfort or pain, or increased balance issues or dizziness, it can seem very real. Pseudo-exacerbation simply means a worsening of current symptoms and is not related to a new lesion.

People often mistake a pseudo-exacerbation as an MS flare, but symptoms of a ‘fake’ exacerbation usually resolve themselves within 24 hours.

You can experience a pseudo-exacerbation when you get sick. A common cold or flu can bring one on. I have had this happen to me in the past, and while it has increased my current symptoms — making me more prone to an accident or fall — it was still manageable because my body recognized that particular intruder.

At the beginning of the year I had acquired a nasty bug that was given to me by my generous teenager. This pseudo-exacerbation was different. More severe. My legs and balance are my problems in regards to my MS. It literally paralyzed me. I couldn’t walk or toilet myself and I could only stand with help.

If it is something your body has never encountered before, this can cause a severe exacerbation of symptoms. I honestly think that this is the reason it affected me so severely the last time I was sick. My immune system was not familiar with that particular invader.

It is always a good idea to stay up to date with immunizations so that your body can build up antibodies to combat anything new that might want to take up residence.

Choosing to eat clean, less processed food will help your body maintain the ability to stave off any of those nasty viruses and germs that you may have come into contact with.

Additionally, oregano oil is another fantastic, natural way to help give your immune system a fighting chance. It aids in seeking out and destroying anything that might make you sick. It tastes horrible, but it does the job. The next time you feel a tingling in your sinuses that tells you it’s a precursor to a cold, put a couple drops of the beautiful amber liquid under your tongue and let it do its thing. Wait a few minutes before swallowing to allow your gums a chance to absorb its healthful properties.

I just wanted to mention this so that everyone is aware of what pseudo-exacerbation is, what it can do, so you can take the proper precautions to avoid a potential fall or accident.

Stay safe, friends.
